Football

Football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily using the feet, but also allowing players to use their bodies except for the arms and hands, which are generally reserved for the goalkeeper.

The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, which is typically grass or artificial turf, and is divided into two halves. A standard match consists of two 45-minute halves, with a brief halftime interval.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The sport is known for its global popularity, with governing bodies like FIFA overseeing international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup.

Football places emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and skill, and it is played at various levels, from recreational pickup games to professional leagues worldwide. Its cultural significance and widespread appeal have made it one of the most popular sports globally.
